“So God blessed the seventh day and hallowed it, because on it God rested from all the work that he had done in creation.” – Genesis 2:3

What a strong message God sent by taking a day of rest! It’s actually a good thing to do nothing, sometimes. As my mother entered her nineties, she told everyone she was writing a book entitled “How to Do Nothing” since it was the hardest thing she’d ever done. She lost her strength, her eyesight and mobility, but never her sense of humor.  She also said “busy” was the worst four-letter word there was. She grew weary of people talking about how busy they were. I think she was trying to tell me something.
So, yes, I’m turning into my mother. I’m on a journey to fully embrace my Sabbath (Mondays for me, since I work at a church). I rest and now take more delight in what God has created, this beautiful earthly garden, a gift to be tended to and protected.
Lord, thank you for creating this world and all its beauty that we can so easily miss if we don’t slow down. Amen.
